Terrorism Changing Security in the United States - 820 Words

In the past few decades, there have been various terrorist attacks throughout the world. Most importantly, countless acts of terrorism have been committed in the United States of America, that have gradually influenced the way the American security system and security at public buildings, public places, are run. Because of this act of terror, the American government has made protecting its citizens and country a top priority. These attacks, and the nations response to them security-wise, still affect Americans lives today physically and emotionally. Seeing that the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing, September 11, 2001, and the Boston Marathon Bombing have happened on American soil, they have forever changed the way the country deals†¦show more content†¦Their intention did not go as planned the explosion killed six people and injured over 1,000. This event sparked the new phase of terrorism which involves the killing of human beings (Parachini). This building served as t he ideal American landmark for the worst act of domestic terrorism in the United States (Shields) In modern United States history there is no more superlative tragedy than 9/11. On September 11,2001 19 militants, affiliated with the Islamic group al-Qaeda and financed by Saudi-Arabian fugitive Osama Bin Laden, and hijacked four airplanes (History.com). The planes were on their way to Los Angeles and San Francisco after they departed from New York and Boston. The terrorists chose long flights because the planes were equipped with the maximum fuel intake. Two of the four planes were flown into the towers of the World Trade Center. Just like in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, these terrorists were under an operation to kill Americans. Led by five hijackers American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower at 8:46 a.m. Another five terrorists flew United Airlines Flight 175 into the South Tower of the World Trade Center at 9:03 a.m. A third plane, located just outside o f Washington , D.C. Again, flown by five terrorists, had taken over American Airlines Flight 77.
